Versatile and unique, the Stump can be a stool, a table, or simply an accent piece. Carved from a solid block of freshly cut ash or maple, the surface is meant to crack and split as it dries, making each piece totally unique. Ring and heartwood details have been preserved and featured on the seat. All the lumber used is locally and sustainably harvested. No finish has been applied to best allow the piece to develop a natural patina as it ages.
Like much of Kalon Studios’ work, the Stump explores the playful relationship between the inherent variations of natural materials and the precision of contemporary form.
Founded in 2007 by Michaele Simmering and Johannes Pauwen, Kalon produces work with a strong focus on elemental forms, natural materials and versatility. Since the beginning, Kalon has held a deep commitment to sustainable, US based production, and each piece is made by a small team of highly skilled traditional craftspeople in New England using timber sourced from local, sustainably managed forests and the highest quality sustainable finishes and materials.
