Inspired by the hazy and mystical scenes unique to Japan, a country blessed with many mountains and forests. The top and middle notes are forest scents such as pine needles and patchouli that evoke greenery and earthiness, while the bottom note is sandalwood and oakmoss that remind one of trees and dampness deep in the mountains.
The ceramic vessel is handmade in Shigaraki, one of the six ancient kilns of Japan, just over the mountains northeast of Nara. The glaze expresses the dark green world of leaves and moss that coexist with the atmosphere of trees and moist soil unique to the deep mountains. Each one is unique. Vessels are meant to be reused and can be made new with a candle refill, sold separately.
Each candle comes packaged in a beautiful paper box, perfect for gifting.
Huukyou was founded in Nara in 2022 by two young designers seeking to capture the lost spirit of Japan, reuniting its unique nature and culture. Business partners Yoichi Yoshikawa and Kota Mori hope to achieve this through a series of home objects that embody Japanese sensibilities both ancient and modern.
