Perfect for picnics, the market, or storage around the house, the Bolga Pot Basket is handwoven by female artisans in Ghana from local veta vera grass. The sturdy handle is wrapped in beige leather that will darken over time. In keeping with the nature of handmade pieces, expect slight variations in size and shape. Some baskets also have leather wrapped around the connection point to the basket, some do not (see last photo). If you have a preference for one or the other, leave a note at checkout.
Please note : Baskets ship flattened. Reshaping them is easy — just pop them into shape and then wet the straw in the bath or with a hose and press into shape. Shake out any excess water and leave in a warm, sunny spot to dry.
Based in Windsor, Ontario, Mmabiabaskets was founded by Ghanaian-born Rebecca Ashie in 2017. Through partnering with artisan weavers in Bolgatanga, Ghana, Ashie seeks to make a positive contribution to the development of traditional crafts and community in her native country.
