Matt Fishman

Landscape Vase

Regular price $84

Thrown on a potters wheel and then altered to create a variety of organic, undulating forms, no two vases are alike, but each has a pleasing, natural shape and similar texture. The surface is built up with various hand-dug clays and sand layered together, creating a deep and textured finish without the use of glaze. Beautiful as an objet but designed to be used, the clay is watertight, and the rim shaped to attractively hold floral arrangements.

From his background as a chef, Matt Fishman brings similar values of handcraft and locally sourced ingredients to his pottery practice. All of his work is created with wild clay and glazes that he forages from clay, stone, and plant ash locally in the Sierra Nevada and Bay Area. With the earthy, rustic feel of his ceramics, he seeks to create a unique record of the geology of Northern California.
