Matt Fishman

Granite Sake Cups

Regular price $36

Handmade sake cup, thrown on a potters wheel and faceted while still wet to create an organic shaped but multi-sided design. The clay and glaze materials for these are entirely foraged in Northern California and minimally processed to allow the natural beauty to show through. This glaze is made almost entirely from local granite and minimally milled to give a pleasantly rugged feel. Finished with designs made in ilmenite, a local iron/titanium material.

From his background as a chef, Matt Fishman brings similar values of handcraft and locally sourced ingredients to his pottery practice. All of his work is created with wild clay and glazes that he forages from clay, stone, and plant ash locally in the Sierra Nevada and Bay Area. With the earthy, rustic feel of his ceramics, he seeks to create a unique record of the geology of Northern California.
