Wild Clay Yunomi in Granite Glaze

Regular price $50

Wheel-thrown in the Japanese yunomi style—a classic footed tumbler—this handle-less mug is perfect for sipping water, tea, coffee, and more. This batch of yunomi are faceted while still wet to create an organic shaped but multi-sided design and glazed using a base of granite, ground relatively course for pleasing stone-like feel, and finished with accents of local ilmenite, a local iron/titanium material. Made entirely by hand from clay and glaze ingredients foraged in the Sierra foothills, they make a beautiful and unique gift.

From his background as a chef, Matt Fishman brings similar values of handcraft and locally sourced ingredients to his pottery practice. All of his work is created with wild clay and glazes that he forages from clay, stone, and plant ash locally in the Sierra Nevada and Bay Area. With the earthy, rustic feel of his ceramics, he seeks to create a unique record of the geology of Northern California.
