A very special piece, Igetaya only produces one noren in this thick, textured natural cotton at any given time. This autumn's piece features a repeating triangle motif created through itajime shibori, folding the textile and clamping it with a resist form, which leaves a stunning specter of lighter dye around each triangle. The warmer undertone of the unbleached cotton gives the indigo more of a greenish tint than it typically takes, closer to the color of the sea, including the aqua-toned asagi around each triangle.
The historic center of shibori, the Japanese art of manual resist dyeing, since 1608, Arimatsu still produces high quality hand-knotted and dyed work from their traditional workshops on the outskirts of modern Nagoya. Igetaya has been producing small-batch shibori noren, kimono fabric, and more in Arimatsu since 1780.
