Soda Fired Sake Cups

Regular price $42

Small cups or salt bowls, perfect for sipping sake or tea. Made from locally foraged clay and minimally processed to keep its character. The profiles on these are all slightly different and generally irregular, making for more organic forms. Some are left unglazed, some were coated in a slip made of dark clay and cobalt. In the soda firing, soda ash interacts with the surfaces of the pieces to flash various colors and sometimes turn glassy. Made entirely by hand from clay and glaze ingredients foraged in Northern California, they make a one-of-a-kind gift.

From his background as a chef, Matt Fishman brings similar values of handcraft and locally sourced ingredients to his pottery practice. All of his work is created with wild clay and glazes that he forages from clay, stone, and plant ash locally in the Sierra Nevada and Bay Area. With the earthy, rustic feel of his ceramics, he seeks to create a unique record of the geology of Northern California.
