Yamaichi Rokuro

Urushi-Lacquered Wooden Plate | Keyaki

Regular price $94

We first discovered this exquisite wooden tableware on a trip to the Kiso Valley in Nagano Prefecture last year, and we knew we had to return again on our trip this year. Hand-turned from local woods and then coated in a clear natural urushi lacquer, the craftsmen masterfully allow the beauty of the wood to shine through. This set of plates was carved from keyaki, Japanese zelkova, a dense hardwood celebrated for its beautiful grain. Each plate is sold separately and is totally unique.

Run by Kazuo Ogura, a fifth-generation woodturner, Yamaichi Rokuro produces fine handturned and natural urushi-lacquered woodwork made from local hardwoods in Nagano Prefecture, from tableware to furniture and everything in between.

Urushi lacquerware requires delicate care. Do not use with metal utensils. Hand wash with a gentle cloth and soap and dry thoroughly. Do not soak. Do not put into a dishwasher or microwave. Do not store in direct sunlight. Take care of your lacquerware and it will become an heirloom piece for generations.
